Temporary email via fixed line or WiFi

Postby impasse » Sat Mar 06, 2010 11:16 pm

We have a maison secondaire in the vendee area with a fixed telephone line using France telecom. We suspend the line when not in residence.

Myself, my wife & 3 children visit approx. 3 times a year from Easter to November - with a total of 5 weeks during the summer.

We have a laptop & our friends & famiy that visit, bring their laptops also.

The question is, what is the most convenient & economical way of being able to email and occasionally surf the web, bearing in mind we are only in residence for approx. 10 weeks of the year?

Is there any way I could instigate a system 'on - line' from the UK..Either using the fixed land line or WiFi?

Any help or advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Howdy ! the easiest & cheapest option is to do what you've gotta do at McDonald's, all for the price of a coffee !
Alternatively, join the "heads-up" generation & leave all the 21st century BS in the UK & take a break ! ;)

Not even the price of a coffee if you sit outside in the car!

Our French neighbours are wonderful. They have fixed line internet access (no WiFi in the area) and we are always invited to use their computer to check banking etc., along with free coffee, biscuits & friendly conversation!

We don't want to impose too much, especially with friends & family maybe wanting to occasionally use the internet.

We intend to continue to accept our friendly neighbour's hospitality, but the 'McDonalds' idea seems a good one, especially as we do visit Lucon or La Roche at least once during our stay in the area.

Thanks to those of you that have answered!

I'm pretty sure there are very few area in the Vendee where you can't get broadband, so your neighbours may well have upgraded by now...

Otherwise the ideas for McDo and others seems good; many cafes these days offer free WiFi as well
