Gales in the Vendee, but no damage

Postby Rochej » Fri Feb 26, 2010 2:12 pm

It blew a lot during the night of Thursday to Friday in the department, but nothing too serious.

The fire service made a score of interventions due to falling trees. "A lot of wind" Weather France commented in La Roche-sur-Yon. The weather station at Ajoncs recorded at the height of this storm, between midnight and 3 am, gusts of 110 km / h in Noirmoutier and Ile d'Yeu and up to 105 km / h La Roche-sur Yon, and 100 km / h in South Vendee.

It's a little more than Monday when we had gusts of 100 km / h in Noirmoutier, and the same thing in Fontenay le Comte, that is to say at both ends of the department.

It's not over: Weather France forecasts another gale during the night from Saturday to Sunday. In late night gusts could reach 100 km / h.

I hate it when we get these severe weather reports for the West coast of France. I am sitting up in rural Northumberland wondering what has happened to my little Vendeene house. I see the storms reached Fontenay. This happened around the same time last year. Has anyone heard of any damage around Thouarsais Bx. Paddy

I had a message from my Dad who lives in Vouvant saying that all the power and Phone lines are down but not to worry! A little damage here and there but nothing too bad. I am waiting for him to call me later if he can get a mobile signal!!

I feel a bit 'well worried' as a new owner in the Vendee (October'09). Haven't been able to raise my local contacts yet, but does anyone know of much damage around Bazoges-en-Pareds/Pulteau at all. The roof looked old when I bought it, but I'd hate to lose it!

Thanks

Does anyone know how badly Vouvant has been hit by these gales -I have a place north of the river and town. Have seen the photos of the trees by the river but as of yet not spoken to anyone. Is no news good news ?????

the major damage was all at the coast. Inland damage to property was totally random consisting of a few flipped roof tiles or if unlucky enough, tree damage. From what I've seen, anyone not right on the coast can relax !

Bazoges is fine but Vouvant has been wiped off the map ! (not) ;)
