Vendee Unemployment

Postby Rochej » Sun Jan 31, 2010 10:06 am

Unemployment was at 8.1% in the Vendée at the end of the third quarter of 2009. In late November, there were over 35,500 job seekers. This rate was 5.7% during the same period in 2008. An increase of 2.4 points higher than the French rate (1.7%) and regional (2%)

This situation generated by the crisis is unprecedented. For at least a decade, the unemployment rate in the Vendee has been two points lower than metropolitan France and one point below that of the Region. In one year the rate has become the same as the Pays de la Loire.

There is some good news: for example in the eastern sector of the Vendee (Bocage), where rising unemployment peaked in 2009 (+ 38.2%), there was first a slight decrease of 1.4% November 30.

The long-term unemployment is difficult: In late November, there were 11,199 people unemployed for over a year against 10,831 the previous month. This category represents 29.7% of total demand.

At the end of November 2009, the Vendee had 8 666 young people under 25 unemployed. An increase in annual rate of 22.9%, against 22.2% in Region and 19.2% in France.

55% of the unemployed are female; 16.4 % are over 50.

Whilst there are variations, all areas have been hit by rising unemployment levels: La Roche-sur-Yon: + 31%; East Vendee: + 38.2%; Vendee south + 23.3% and western Vendee: + 22.9%.

Hi Barry, hopefully with a bit more better news, the tight & loaded English retirees will start unpicking their mattresses & injecting some of their hoard into the local economy.
Every little helps apparently ;)

It,s always baffled me how french companies make a living .there are no incentives to employ anyone because of high cotisations and insurances etc,and for good measures if a member of staff is useless ,they are virtually unsackable,ok for the employed ,pants for the employer :P

In 2009, unemployment increased by 24%, the largest increase in the region. December saw a slight decline.

At year end, in data adjusted for seasonal variations, there were 35 372 job seekers.

But for the first time since the beginning of the year, there was a decline - albeit slight - in December with a decrease of 0.2%. Less than Loire (- 0.3%) but significantly better than in metropolitan France (+0.2%). For the record, in late September 2009, the unemployment rate remained at 8.1% (+2.4% on the year).

By sector, the increases were variable in 2009: La Roche-sur-Yon: + 26%; East Vendee : + 26%; South Vendee: + 18.8% and western Vendee: + 21.2%.

The decline is general in December, with micro-variations: La Roche-sur-Yon (- 0.1%), East Vendee (- 0.5%); South Vendee (- 0.3%) and Vendee west (- 0.3%).

At year end there were 8 388 unemployed young people, 20 694 women, 6 255 elderly persons and 11 721 unemployed for at least a year.

Nevertheless, according Unedic, the decline in employment (calculated between September 2008 and September 2009) is 4.2% in the Vendee, the upper Loire (- 1.2%) and France (- 2.2%). At September 30 there were 163 586 employees in the department.
